Backyard Ecological Restoration

Kalpulli is excited to introduce its newest project, Backyard Ecological Restoration.  We are looking for individuals, organizations, and business which have an area of land, no matter how small, that they wish to have restored into an natural ecosystem.  There is no requirement that the land be legally designated a natural area and so the property owner holds full rights to future decisions on the land.

Interested? send inquires to

kalpulli@kalpulli.net

Each restoration will be part of a four step process and will be individualized to meet the needs of the property owner.

Step One: Kalpulli will meet with the land owner to determine their needs and discuss possible solutions.  It must be the intent of the landowner to restore the area to a natural ecosystem that is appropriate for the region and local topography.

Step Two: After meeting with the land owners and obtaining onsite information, Kalpulli members and associates will conduct research to determine the best suitable restoration plan.  During this step funding and donations will be pursued.

Step Three: Invasive species will be removed according to the plan.  This step will also include planting, if it is part of the restoration plan.

Why Backyard Restoration?

Kalpulli not only recognizes the need for ecological restoration of all kinds, but it believes that restoration in our own backyards is of special importance.  First, these areas are in direct human contact and so can provided the greatest benefit for human health.  Second, these areas will allow ourselves and our children to interact with nature in a positive way throughout our daily lives. Third, these areas have been ignored by organizations as candidates for restoration because they tend to be relatively small and there isn't always assurance that the area with remain indefinitely as a natural area.  Kalpulli believes that these areas are important because of their cultural significance to those individuals which inhabit them.  With this being said, we set out on our journey to join nature and people.
